The concern about crime in America is that it involves many issues coming from how there are too many juries that tend to be divided with regards to what goes on in a case. The problem with juries being groups that are tough to agree with is a big issue that might make it difficult for cases to be handled and for justice to be met.
This is a huge risk because it does more than create injustice by influencing who can and cannot be put in jail for crimes. This involves how people are feeling like they can commit crimes if they feel like it simply because they feel that they are not likely to actually get into trouble for some kind of crime.
One good example of this involves a trial in North Carolina of Jason Young, a person who was arrested in the fatal beating of his wife in 2009. This arrest can three years after the beating. However, he did not get convicted of anything in 2011 during his first trial because the jury was divided over the verdict and could not reach a proper verdict in time.
This is a big issue that has been of concern. The evidence is clearly mounting towards Young and even suggests that he wanted to get out of his marriage and had been with another woman in Virginia during the time that he has allegedly beat his wife to death.
This is a problem because the justice for a victim may not be easy to handle due to how people are willing to commit crimes with the belief that they may not actually be in trouble even if they are in trouble.
Another example comes from the Chicago area trial of Larry Dominick, a person who fired a handyman without any basis for doing so and was supported by a jury who determined that he did not fire that handyman for political reasons. However, the judge in that case threw the verdict out and is asking for a retrial to see if another result may be prepared to award reimbursement to the person who was wrongfully fired.
This is a good example of how sometimes a person might be treated without due process of the law and that a person might feel that immoral crimes against people can occur without worrying about a fair case. In Dominick's case he is being retried but this may not necessarily happen in every single case that occurs.
The concern about a lack of fair trials around the country is a big problem that may keep violence and improper transgressions against society intact. People may begin to feel that they can get away with more things because the legal system is not working as well as it should be and people are being allowed to get away with a number of transgressions and other issues that might impact people. This is an interesting point that might influence what goes on in the minds of people when thinking about committing certain crimes to get their way.

Comment by Rachel Nduter on March 9, 2012 at 4:07pm I think you're right. Crime's out of control, even though crime rates are declining. I think it's the violent crimes that are growing.
