Memphis teen who stabbed school principal to death will likely be tried as an adult

Principal Suzette York was murdered by grade-eleven student Eduardo Marmolejo because he did not like her and she made him angry.

A teenager who stabbed the principal of his school to death because he did not like her will be tried as an adult, if, as expected, he is indicted for first-degree murder by a Tennessee grand jury. Eduardo Marmolejo, seventeen years old, readily admitted that he killed Suzette York on August 10 in a classroom at the Memphis Junior Academy where she was the principal. Marmolejo told police that he planned to murder her and waited until the third day of school and a time when he knew he would be alone with her. She suffered numerous stab wounds to her throat, neck and face, according to police. Her body was found in the classroom lying in a pool of blood.

There had been some question as to whether Marmolejo would be found competent to stand trial, but following a court-ordered mental evaluation, a juvenile court judge has ruled that he is competent and should face trial as an adult. The prosecution says that the killing was premeditated.
